• Promote kitchen safety, including hand and workspace sanitizing, proper food handling, and knife safety
• Practice math by following recipes and measuring ingredients
• Arrange the kitchen workplace for success
• Discuss food science, nutrition, and keeping our bodies healthy
• Explore the importance of sustainability and eating what is in season
• Encourage creativity in reusing or repurposing ingredients already on hand
• Become experts in cleaning up the kitchen
• Learn to work independently and as a team!
CANCELLATION POLICY FOR SUMMER CAMPS: If your child is unable to attend the summer camp session for which you registered, please inform us as soon as possible. If you notify us at least fifteen business days before the first day of the camp, we will issue you a full refund for the cost of the camp less the credit card processing fees we encountered. If you are not able to provide fifteen business days’ notice, we will attempt to rebook the summer camp session. If we are successful, we will provide you with a credit which you may use on future classes. If we are not able to rebook the camp session, we regret that no refund or store credit will be issued. You are welcome to gift the camp session to another child, and provide us with that person’s name, age, and contact information.
DISCOUNT FOR TWO CAMPS: Registering for two camps? Save $10 off each camp ($20 total) by entering Code “SummerCooking2” in the Promo Code (not Gift Certificate) box on the Checkout page.
AGES: Our Summer Camps are intended for kids ages 6 and above. Please note: in order to ensure the maximum benefit for all children, your child must be capable of following directions and cooperating with others in the class.
FRIDAYS: On Friday, the children will work independently to recreate one of the recipes made during the week, putting their own unique twist on the recipe. Our goal is to challenge the children to use the skills they have developed during the week and to gain the culinary confidence they need to work independently at home. We do not want the children get overly anxious about this experience, so the chefs will be there to offer guidance, as needed.
CLASS SIZE LIMIT: We limit class size to 16-18 children to allow our staff to provide quality instruction.
RECIPE BOOKLET: On Friday, the children receive a recipe booklet of all the recipes they have made in camp that week. We hope they will make you dinner one evening!
safety during a pandemic
FACE MASKS: Anyone entering JAX Cooking Studio must wear a mask. When children are at their cooking stations or seated to eat, they do not have to wear masks. When visiting the restroom or coming up to measure ingredients, masks must be worn.
PARENTS IN THE STUDIO: Parents entering the cooking studio to drop off and pick up their children must wear a face mask. To protect the children and our staff, parents are not permitted to stay in the studio other than at those times.
CHILDREN BECOMING ILL: If a child begins to display symptoms of illness once at camp, that child will be isolated in a separate room attended by a JAX Cooking Studio staff member. The parent will be required to pick up the ill child within thirty minutes of being notified by JAX Cooking Studio that the child is ill.
HAND-WASHING: Hand-washing sinks are spaced throughout the cooking studio. Children will be taught the proper way to wash their hands and turn off the faucet. They will be prompted many times throughout the camp session to wash their hands. We also have multiple bottles of hand sanitizer available for use around the studio.
SOCIAL DISTANCING: Our dining tables have been spaced apart to provide for social separation.
TEACHING COOKING DURING COVID-19: Our staff practices social distancing as much as possible when appropriate to the interaction required for teaching children to cook. Children either prepare their own food or work together with one or two other children to make the food they will eat.
WATER: Each child will be provided with a disposable cup labeled with his or her first and last name.
DISINFECTING THE STUDIO: The cooking studio is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected using EPA approved disinfectant each day.
