This camp teaches culinary basics and provides lots of hands-on cooking so your kids can develop the confidence they need to get creative in the kitchen. The young chefs will learn and practice a variety of culinary skills, including chopping, measuring, mixing, and baking. We will also discuss the different types of kitchen tools and their uses.

June 28-July 2 — Iron Chef Bootcamp
Day 1: Knife Skills – Learn to chop, dice, mince and julienne. Asian Inspired Summer Rolls; Grilled Chicken Skewers with Farmer’s Market Salsa and Tortilla Chips; Fruit Carving and Fruit Salad; Veggie Prep for Day 2
Day 2: Stovetop Cooking Techniques – Learn to sear and sauté. Pan-Seared Sirloin Steak with Herb Pan Sauce; Sautéed Vegetable Julienne Using Veggies from Day 1; Parmesan Risotto; Chocolate Pudding Cups Topped with Shaved Chocolate and Homemade Whipped Cream
Day 3: Savory and Sweet Baking – Learn the ins and outs of using an oven. Designer Focaccia Bread with Summer Veggies and Herbs; Chicken Broccoli Pot Pie with Homemade Pie Crust; Chocolate Whoopie Pies with Fluffy Vanilla Cream Filling
Day 4: Breakfast Survival Guide – Learn skills to make breakfast for yourself and your family. Granola Parfaits with Fresh Fruits and Kid-Made Granola; Chicken Apple Sausage; Million Dollar Turkey Bacon; Breakfast Home Fries; Custom Omelets with an Assortment of Veggies and Cheeses
Day 5: Nailed It! The children will work independently to recreate one of the recipes we made during the week, putting their own unique twist on the recipe. The chefs will be available to offer guidance, as needed or requested.

JAX Cooking Studio Summer Camps are sure to be a highlight of your child’s summer! We teach kids basic culinary skills. They learn to work independently and in teams to cook the day’s recipes. Each week, we feature a different camp theme, so your child can choose the most interesting topic. At the end of each day, campers eat the recipes they prepared.

$315 per child for five days of camp, 3 hours per day.

Depending upon the camp selected, you can expect your child to learn some or all of the following in our hands-on classes:
1.  how to be safe in the kitchen, including hand and workspace sanitizing, proper food handling, including how to wash food; knife safety;
2.  how to read and follow a recipe;
3.  how to arrange the kitchen workplace so that all the items needed for the recipe are located and placed nearby (mise en place);
4.  how to accurately measure ingredients using measuring cups, measuring spoons, and kitchen scales;
5.  how to bake/roast, stew/braise, stir-fry, make sauces and soups;
6.  the difference between whole and processed foods and how each affects health;
7.  the importance of sustainability and eating what is in season;
8.  how to reuse or repurpose ingredients already on hand; and
9.  how to clean up the kitchen.

AGES: The series is appropriate for kids ages 6 and above. In order to ensure the maximum benefit for all children, your child must be capable of following directions and cooperating with others in the class.

CLASS SIZE LIMIT: Due to the level of individualized attention, we accept only 16 to 18 children per session.

CANCELATION POLICY: If your child is unable to attend the summer camp session for which you registered, please inform us as soon as possible. If you notify us at least 15 business days before the first day of the camp, we will issue you a full refund for the cost of the camp less the credit card processing fees we encounter. If you are not able to provide 15 business days’ notice, we will attempt to rebook the summer camp session. If we are successful, we will provide you with a credit which you may use on future classes. If we are not able to rebook the camp session, we regret that no refund or store credit will be issued. You are welcome to gift the camp session to another child, and provide us with that person’s name, age, and contact information.
